They say we are going out somewhere for dinner and it is the famed Beach Café at Blackmans Bay.
I've been there once before and it has a great reputation. Tonight though, it is as their guest and we are welcomed on arrival by the manager Mikey, a very confident and extremely impressive young man. He is at the same time just finishing his medical degree specialising in opthalmic surgery, is also a budding 'fromagier', and a most amazing host. The meal is excellent and we all overeat, just a little I'm afraid. This is now their favourite restaurant and I certainly see why. It is charming, friendly, great food and not too expensive. Really five stars.
Home for a good night's sleep in a warmed room and lovely double bed looking out on to lush verdant foliage and the odd beautifully coloured bird. What a paradise they have made here.
Lunch is also an invitation to the local restaurant called the 'Piece of Pie' which has homemade pies, all very tasty. It is a family-run restaurant and very charming. Pies, followed by delicious lemon cake fill us up before a short drive home through the green hills for a quiet afternoon reading, relaxing in their extended yurt at Longley.
Julian has many stories to tell and he is presently writing his memoir, mainly concerning his early social justice activism when he was arrested, among many other things. As an ex-priest, he has led an exciting and fruitful life, helping many along the way in his ongoing fight for justice and equality.
He is very modest and is a great example for everyone.
